Director's Notes
Little Shop of Horrors is our headliner for our 2022-23 “Don’t Feed the Plants” season. This year is about caution, trusting your instincts and making your own decisions. We so quickly get caught up in mass rhetoric, hysteria and gossip, we sometimes forget that we have our own brains, our own judgment and our own experiences to draw from. In our fall production of Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom, we explored the theme through the world of virtual reality and video games. In our spring production of Hamlet, we will be exploring the concept through a lens of mental health. For this show, it is quite literal. When an alien plant from another world tells you it can promise you wealth, fame and the heart of a lady you really dig, it’s probably a little too good to be true. Little Shop is such a standout show in the rock/comedy genre. It continues to be one of the top produced musicals in high schools for a third decade for a reason. The characters are colorful and rich, the music by Alan Menken is catchy and the book by Howard Ashman somehow finds the perfect blend of comedy and horror. Almost everyone has a Little Shop of Horrors story. We are excited to make you a part of ours. We are so grateful to have audiences back in our venue and we hope you enjoy the show!
