About the Show:From the Tony® and Grammy® award-winning creators of Spring Awakening, Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik, and co-written by Jessie Nelson (Waitress), Alice by Heart is a touching musical inspired by Alice’s madcap Adventures in Wonderland.
In the rubble of the London Blitz of World War II, Alice Spencer’s budding teen life is turned upside down, and she and her dear friend Alfred are forced to take shelter in an underground tube station. When the ailing Alfred is quarantined, Alice encourages him to escape with her into their cherished book and journey down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. As they travel through the tale, Alice by Heart explores the poignancy of first love, coming to terms with loss, and finding the courage to move forward. This world premiere musical encourages us all to celebrate the transformational power of the imagination, even in the harshest of times. |

Commedia dell'Crime: Maple Behind Bars
Spring Play: Rumors by Neil Simon
About the Play
About the play: Four couples are invited to celebrate the 10th wedding anniversary of the deputy mayor of New York and his wife with a luxurious dinner at their townhouse in Sneden’s Landing. However, as the guests arrive, they discover that nothing has quite gone as planned. The servants are gone, the hostess is missing and the deputy mayor has been shot through the ear. Comic complications arise as the guests attempt to both figure out what has happened and also conceal events from one another to minimize the possibility of rumors and scandal. But everything comes to a hilarious juncture when the police arrive and the guests must work together to uncover (or create) a unified truth.
AUDITIONS
What to prepare:
Also, consider works by some of Neil Simon’s comedic contemporaries such as Noel Coward, Moss Hart & George S. Kaufman or Joseph Kesselring.
- Audition form: Make sure you have completed the audition form online HERE
- Sign-Up for an audition time: Sign up on the callboard for a 5 minute audition timeslot.
- 1-2 minute comedic monologue: Prepare and memorize a 1-2 minute contemporary comedic monologue. DO NOT prepare something from Rumors. Instead, you can look for any contemporary monologue from a play (not film or television). Contemporary just means that it sounds like modern, everyday speaking and not in poetic verse. If you are struggling to find something, consider other comedic works by Neil Simon, such as:
- Barefoot in the Park
- The Odd Couple or The Odd Couple (Female Version)
- Fools
- The Good Doctor
- Plaza Suite
- The Star-Spangled Girl
